Hooking Off The Jab....

Hooking off the jab is a combo that many fighters neglect... It's a great weapon to use as was evident in last night's fight with Forrest vs. Baldomir...

Fighters..... You NEED to watch and study fights like this.... I couldn't believe on how sharp Forrest looked!

Did you see him hooking of that great jab he was shooting?! Watching that makes you want to go right to the gym and spar and try it yourself...

We can forget to use certain combos at times... Watching a technician like Forrest who REALLY upped his effort and performance.... You see things in action that maybe you neglected... You get ideas and see how great they can work at the same time....

It's great to watch these fights and hope to catch a performance like Vernon's and learn from it...

It's even better to go to the gym and try it out for yourself...

Class Is In Session Tonight....

Aspiring fighters if you want to get a real lesson in the Sweet Science... Professors Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright will be presenting tonight in the squared circle...

Take notes on how Winky uses his jab at different tempos...On how he uses a simple turtle like defense to pick off would be scoring shots.... Take notes on how Bernard will try to adapt by offsetting Winky's jab...As he will try to time him with right hands... Pay close attention to Bernard's foot work that many are overlooking and may be a decisive factor in tonight's fight...

Ring Generalship will be shown at it's finest tonight...

The key in the ring is to stay relaxed and both of these fighters do this so well...They also know how to set traps... Change momentum... Take away strengths and make it theirs....

Yup....

This is a fight that aspiring fighters will be studying for some time on how boxing is really done...By two masters... It won't be brawling.. But Science.. With some bursts of fierce exchanges of course... I really expect we will get more action than anticipated tonight...

Students...Pay close attention, as these fighters will be displaying skills that are neglected by many...It may be some time before you see two old school fighters like this again...

What The Jab Can Do For You

It all starts with the jab... My fighters know how much I stress this... Yet many fighters neglect it or under utilize it...

For all you fighters out there... You wanna control and win alott fights?... Develop a great jab...

Larry Holmes dominated with it for eight years during his title reign...Watch some of his fights.. Look at how he mesmerizes and sets up his opponents with it scoring at will... He kept them on the defensive and shut them down!...The jab was everything to him...

Ike "Bazooka" Quartey has a Bazooka like jab.. In his prime he dominated his opponents with it... Ike had De la Hoya hesitant and off his game with it...

Now Winky Wright has been kicking ass with his jab and turtle like defense... Winky's jab has a crisp velocity to it and he shoots it a bit high.. This throws his opponents off...

The thing here is.. He developed it this way... He worked on it for countless hours and years... Now he is reaping the rewards of his labor...

Learn from these elite fighters... Watch what this weapon can do for you...

The jab can shut fearsomely offensive fighters down keeping them on the defensive...

You get the point?... Good... Now get to work on it!

It was finally announced that the fight between Jermain " Bad Decisions " Taylor and Kelly Pavlik is signed and done.....

This is a great fight for the fans and boxing period...One that will draw great....

The Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City will be rocking for this event... Expect Bob Arum to be showing his promotional finest for this big fight...

Another BIG fight that has been announced is WBO Champion Joe Calzaghe vs. WBA/WBC Mikkel Kessler...The fight is slated for Nov.3

To prove how big this fight is... 16,000+ tickets were sold in first 12 hours! ... Talk about anticipation...

The fight is being held at the 76,000 seat Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales....

Ya I know this fight isn't in the states... But to have a stadium with 76,000 seats nearly filled is awesome for the sport...

Oh ya... The seats will fill... Joe is a HUGE draw.. His fights already draw over 30,000 fans... Kessler is becoming more and more of a big draw with each spectacular victory....Those are loyal and rabid fans over there who come out to support...

This is obviously why the Millennium Stadium is the chosen site...

It's just great to see many big fights finally being made....

It's also going to be great to see the hyped fan support for these fights....

These two promotional firms are kicking away the casket!

Boxing is dying huh?... Damn! I gotta tell you how much this annoys me to even write this statement.....

I hate hearing that bullshit! Cause those of us in the know... Know how ludicrous that is....as I have written about it before....

Well you may be thinking.... Hey smart ass!.. How can you still think that way after all that has been written to the contrary?

I'll tell you why....

The relationship between Golden Boy and Top Rank (Bob Arum) has been reconciled...

This opens the opportunity and reality for HUGE fights to happen....

Fights like Manny Paq vs.Juan Manual Marquez II

Provided Margarito wins tomorrow... Cotto vs. Margarito

If not, then Mosley vs. Cotto will be made...

These are two VERY proactive promotional power houses and the best in boxing right now...

They will work together to bring more livelier, entertaining, and memorable events....

Both of these power houses stable of star studded fighters backs this statement...

There is no grave site in sight for boxing....

Just the reality of soon to be packed venues and fans greatly anticipating these and more big fights... that get the fans hyped....

Ya... I know it pisses you haters off that the Hurst has now made a U turn....

Cotto has blossmed into something fierce

Miguel Cotto has arrived....Nobody must question his chin, his durability, his power at 147 anymore! He proved allot Saturday night in a tough, gritty fight with Zab Judah... He's really grown over the years and now he's showing he's becoming seasoned...

Watch out welterweights!

Zab earned props in showing lots of heart himself and giving a great fight... Cotto however was too strong and complete to be denied victory...

Cotto though stayed disciplined sticking to his fight plan in the face of losing a point for low blows.... Miguel looks like a machine when he fights... He does not loose focus or fade.. He finishes, as he showed against Zab this past Saturday.....

I think with the momentum, confidence, and what he has shown in his past several fights... I would have to favor him against the Margarito vs. Paul Williams winner, Shane Mosley and even Ricky Hatton provided Hatton gets by Castillo....

Margarito has been looking far more beatable lately, Shane looked good in his last fight, but Cotto can punch and bring it...I don't think Shane could keep Cotto off of him... Hatton I don't think would be strong enough to last with Cotto either...

Ya, as it shows... I'm pretty high on Miguel right now... Cotto is dangerous right now...He has earned his high praise though and seems to get better with each fight...

Each fight with better fighters....Great fighters do that...

This old dog can learn new tricks!

With all the bullshit flying around that boxing is dying I wanted to post this great article penned by Bernard Fernandez on Bob Arums promotional tactics and experience... Here is the link...http://www.maxboxing.com/Bernard/Fernandez060107.asp

When enough of that bullshit about boxing is dying is spread.. The naive actually begin to believe it... It's like all those idiots that spout out insane predictions that the world is ending on this date... People get worked into a frenzy and think it might be true...

With ticket sales anticipated to reach over 20,000 for this weekends big fight Cotto vs. Judah.. Boxing is nearing no grave! Does 20,000 ticket sales resemble a faint heart beat of interest in boxing to you!? Ya, I thought so!

Arum is a old school but hip to the current trends promoter.. He has over 40 years of experience in staging BIG fights.... Electric fights such as Hagler vs. Hearns....

Arum is hip to the beat of making his shows more electric, with making the experience far more enjoyable for the fans with music, glitz, no long lapses in time between fights, and main events supported by solid under card fights...

Cotto vs. Judah is supported by a solid under-card that futures Yuri Foreman (22-0, 8 KOs) ( Who I seen fight in the amateurs many times, a good fighter) vs.Anthony “The Messenger” Thompson (23-1, 17 KOs) also Pac Man's brother Bobby Pacquiao (27-12-3, 12 KOs) vs. Humberto Soto (41-5-2, 25 KOs) rounding out the under-card will be...Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (31-0-1, 24 KOs) vs. Grover Wiley who handed the shop worn Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. his last loss...

Arum knows how to pick a location such as Madison Square Garden to host a fight that will sell more tickets, get the ethnic fans attention and support, and create more fans....

Arum also knows how to support a great main event with a solid under-card as the above matches suggest....

Alright you guy's... The next person that tries to tell you that boxing is dying... Have them watch this weekends fight and the atmosphere will be electric at the garden.. I have been to fights there before and they were great experiences...

They will see the truth.. As seeing is believing... Maybe then they will stop drinking that acadine kool aide that some of these morons are serving... At least they aren't promising that a UFO will come take them to the promise land if they drink and stop watching boxing....

Oh ya you guy's... With Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo coming up on the 23rd of this month....Bernard Hopkins vs. Winky Wright which might surprise some folks and turn out to be a better than anticipated fight, Klitschko vs. Brewster II and the rematch of Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez coming Aug. 4Th these fights will keep the momentum of boxing going as it's going nowhere but up....

It's ok...Go ahead... Sip on this cool aide... I guarantee you will like it....
