You Gotta Love It

I sparred this heavier than usual Heavyweight the other day. It was quite a difference for sure being in the ring with a guy carrying 15 pounds more.

People just don't understand what an extra 15 pounds can feel like in the ring. Just having a guy trying to lay on you and the in fighting is so different.

The good thing is your speed which I used nicely shows.. But again.. Damn.. when I got hit by a few jabs I was like to myself whoooo! Man those are heavy jabs..

I love it though!.. The contact. The intensity.. It's awesome.. Still after all these years.. It's great to enter the ring..

The next day though my neck was sore from taking a few jabs.. Even my hair hurt! The soreness believe it or not felt good. This is what compete sparring feels like.

It's very important to switch up your sparring partners. you can get good at just their style. Switching your sparring partners up allows you to stay sharp and adapt. Getting in their with heavier guy's teaches you allot too as it feels different.

Getting in their with the bigger boys reminds you to keep those hands up, elbows in protecting the ribs, and be ready to feel sore the next day!

You gotta love it though...

The clip board trainer rant..

You see the clip board trainers around. We all do. they are the ones who are usually full of shit and don't know how to coach lifts so they play musical chairs with the machines and shout like cheerleaders.

They will then scribble something down on their clip board as if their client performed some feat.

I actually seen this trainer have his male client perform the seated adduction exercise. This trainer needed to be brought to the locker room to have his ass kicked for that!

Seriously, We are in this business to make people better. Not just herd them around equipment like cattle!

These clip board trainers lack basic program design skills, they lack how to qualify a person for an exercise, they lack how to ascend and descend an exercise.

What they do most is tarnish our industry more and more everyday.

Their insecurities of teaching exercises and having their clients perform them are obvious in their clients program design.

Oh, and when they do try to do a real exercise it looks like complete garbage. I'm telling you it's freaking hilarious watching these clip board trainers clients perform squats and lunges!

Disgusting is more like it.

I actually had this out of shape, weak, pudgy trainer come up to me one time asking if I wouldn't slam down the weights as I was performing a 510lb. 3 rm dead-lift.

Huh?! You got to be kidding me..

Sure chubby.. I'll just gently lower them down... You know what lifting heavy weights are like don't you?

Yes I have seen it's been a struggle for you to spot and help up the bar when your female client is doing a 110lb 8 rm bench press but I believe you.

The sad thing is there is nothing we can do about these trainers. They are more and more polluting the commercial gyms.

Beware of the clip board trainers..

Beware of them snitching on you if you attempt to use the facility to actually lifts heavy weights and get strong.

What's their secret

More and more fighters are competing and still dominating at a so called late age. What's their secret you may ask?

It's called self respect and love for the fight game.

Fighters like Bernard Hopkins at over 40 years old is still training like a maniac and performing brilliantly in the ring.

Look at 43 year young UFC fighter Randy Couture. Ask him if age matters. Hell, he just won the UFC Heavyweight Title becoming the first 5 time champion in the UFC. At 43!

Shane Mosley recently looked great and rejuvenated in his last fight. All these fighters have mad love for the fight game.

You never see them 25-30lbs overweight between fights. You never hear of them ever having any bad habit's.

The one habit they mastered was respect for themselves and the love to train. Their great lifestyle habits and training habits allow them to perform at a high level at a so called advanced age.

There is no limits to them. They don't limit themselves. These fighters scoff at the thought of them being too old to compete at a world class level.

That is their secret. Being professionals. Being right to themselves. The lust they have to stay in shape and train with a vengeance.

Their actions and results show us all what kind of ability lay within us if we only would put out the effort and believe in ourselves and forget the poison that the naysayers try to put in our minds to thwart our dreams and efforts.

These are real men!
